This week’s challenge is about scale and detail. Showing how the same design can look completely different depending on size.
You’ll be creating one design at three different scales. This can help clients understand why size matters for clarity, time, and longevity.
Tattoo Artist Challenge Series #2 - 🦋 The Butterfly Size Challenge
The Challenge:
Draw a butterfly design and create it in three sizes (small, medium, and large)
Keep the general layout of the design the same.
Adjust the linework and detail for each size to make it realistic for a tattoo
Under each version, write how long it would take you to tattoo it and why the details needed to change.
Post it as a carousel or video showing all three side by side.
In your caption, explain how size changes what’s realistic for a tattoo. The detail, shading, texture, and even how it heals.
Clients sometimes don’t realize that detail doesn’t always translate to smaller tattoos. They see a design they love and want it tiny. This shows them why that doesn’t work. It’s also good practice. You have to design for the size you’re tattooing, not just scale everything down.
Share It
Post your butterfly as a carousel or make a short Reel.
“This is why size matters.” Should be the hook.
